What are the stages of a drug case in Korea?

Most cases move through four stages:

1. Police or prosecution investigation — questioning, testing, phone forensics.
2. Referral to the prosecutor, who reviews the evidence.
3. The prosecutor's decision — indictment, a conditional suspension of indictment, or no charge.
4. Trial and sentencing if indicted, with possible appeal.

Drug cases may be handled by the police or directly by the prosecution, depending on the case.
