Q
I'm a permanent resident (F-5). Am I protected from deportation?
A Answer
Permanent residents have stronger protection. The Immigration Act limits deportation of F-5 holders to more serious cases, such as certain grave offenses or prison sentences above specified thresholds. But protection is not immunity, and a criminal conviction can still affect your future applications and naturalization. F-5 holders should treat any criminal case seriously.
