Some point out that police, concerned about the potential impact on the election, are effectively stepping back from the investigation under the pretext of “political neutrality.”

Attorney Chon Hyeong Hwan, a former police officer, said, “From the police’s perspective, there is a considerable practical burden in summoning and questioning a candidate who is actively campaigning during the election period. Therefore, the existing investigation into the nomination donation allegations is likely to gain momentum after the local elections.”
