NEWS Phishing Organizations Spread Across Southeast Asia… International Coo…

By Bang Bo-kyung, Edaily — Police have achieved results through an intensive crackdown operation against phishing organizations in Cambodia, but a “balloon effect” is emerging, with some organizations moving to nearby countries in Southeast Asia. They are continuing their crimes after relocating to countries such as Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Myanmar.
Because phishing crimes can be carried out from different locations with only a few computers, there are growing calls for the government to accelerate international cooperation across agencies.

Chon Hyeong Hwan, Managing Partner at Mega-X Law Office, who is familiar with local conditions in Thailand, said, “In other countries, tattooed Koreans inevitably stand out.” He added, “But in Thailand, because there are so many tourists, they can blend in naturally. Although the number of organization members is not large, I understand that many phishing crime organizations have recently been entering Thailand.”
