Graduates of the Korean National Police University, who are expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening police investigative capabilities, as well as licensed attorneys who joined the police force, are reportedly leaving the organization after gaining a certain amount of professional experience.

With the restructuring of the criminal justice system making it more important than ever to secure personnel with specialized investigative expertise, experts are calling for sufficient incentives to retain these professionals within the police force.

Chon Hyeong-hwan, Managing Partner of MegaX Law Office, who graduated from the Korean National Police University and served as a police officer for 13 years before becoming an attorney, stated:

“Students at the Korean National Police University choose a career in public service as police officers from among various career options, expecting a future in which their abilities will be recognized and they will have opportunities to demonstrate their capabilities after graduation. However, once they actually join the police force, they often discover that the realities of personnel management and working conditions fall far short of their expectations. As a result, they begin considering alternative career paths, such as becoming attorneys.”
