By Kim Soo-min, Dailian — Lee Eun-hae, 31, and Cho Hyun-soo, 30, suspects in the so-called “Valley Murder” case, were arrested 17 days after being publicly wanted and are now being questioned by prosecutors. Legal experts said that, given the circumstances revealed so far, if it is established that the suspects intentionally attempted to kill Lee’s husband, the victim, it is likely that the murder charges will not be difficult to prove.

Attorney Chon Hyeong Hwan of YK Law Firm said, “If a person has a duty to rescue but fails to do so with the intent to kill, murder by omission may be recognized. Therefore, it is necessary to first examine whether there was an intent to kill.” He added, “In the Valley Murder case, given the various circumstances suggesting that there had been attempts to kill the husband, proving intent to murder does not appear to be difficult.”
Attorney Chon further noted, “In particular, Lee was legally married to the victim, and therefore had a legal duty to rescue him.”

Attorney Chon also pointed out, “In fact, surrendering oneself means informing an investigative agency of one’s whereabouts and admitting wrongdoing. Simply giving one’s address to one’s father may not be recognized as a voluntary surrender.”
