Kim Byung-kee, Facing 13 Allegations, Summoned for Fourth Time After 20 Days… Police Investigation “Drifts” With No Conclusion After Six Months

Concerns are growing that the investigation into independent lawmaker Kim Byung-kee, who faces 13 allegations of misconduct, is being delayed due to issues such as delayed appearances, even after a fourth round of questioning was conducted. Police launched the relevant investigation in September of last year, but have yet to produce any significant results after six months.

Attorney Chon Hyeong Hwan of Mega-X Law Office said, “It appears that the evidence currently secured by police is not sufficient, and that they are at the stage of repeatedly supplementing the investigation for each allegation.”

He added, “If securing the suspect’s statement does not proceed smoothly, the investigation is inevitably delayed.”

(Omitted)

Attorney Chon said, “If search and seizure operations targeting the same person are conducted in separate stages, there is a possibility that the suspect may attempt to destroy evidence. In that case, the effectiveness of second or third search and seizure operations may decline.”

He added, “Ultimately, the investigation can make progress only if decisive evidence is secured and leads to securing the suspect’s custody.”

He further pointed out, “Considering that Kim reportedly left without signing the written statement during the third round of questioning, and that his appearance was later delayed due to health reasons, it is highly likely that he showed an uncooperative attitude during the investigation as well.”
